Transcript of news segment:

Sounding the alarm on the opioid crisis in the Bronx, today members of the organization, Samaritan Daytop Village joined Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson to highlight the number of overdose deaths in the borough. While deaths are declining nationwide, they're actually going up in the Bronx. In 2023, there were 858 overdose deaths and today purple ribbons were displayed in memory of them.

“People of color, the African-American community, is not seeing such a decline and is in fact seeing an increase. And the Bronx stands out as a community that is still also seeing high numbers of opioid overdose.” – Jim Hollywood, VP of Residential and Recovery Services, Samaritan Daytop Village

Narcan kits were also distributed as well as information on how to help someone currently in an overdose situation.
